No Till Practices
No till Drilling
To plant seeds for better hay harvests, we use a no till drill machine. The thin blades make a slit in the soil, the machine then drops a seed into the slit, and the wheels run over the slit to plant the seed! How cool is that?!! One benefit of this method is the reduction of soil erosion.
No Till Gardening
We use aged manure for our melon mounds rather than tilling. We then put our hay around the mounds as a mulch and weed barrier. This results in minimal disturbance to our beneficial soil insects.
