Sustainable Farming Practices

  • Reducing soil erosion through practices such as no-till farming & cover cropping,

  • Reducing waste through practices such as spreading harvest residue & composting appropriately 

  • Water quality & conservation efforts such as: rotational grazing, reducing livestock access to streams, & field buffers to absorb run off before it gets to the streams

Organic Farming Practices

  • Produce- grown in soil with no prohibited substances for three years prior to harvest

  • Produce- no genetically modified organisms 

  • Biological Control Methods for controlling weeds, insects & diseases- such as using other animals, insects & plants that naturally inhibit the harmful organisms

  • Soil & Water Conservation cover crops, crop rotation, water quality & conservation practices

  • Renewable Resources- a focus that helps to restore, maintain,  and enhance ecological balance (Eg. rainwater collection systems, composting &/or reusing manure)
